Items that need Temperature Controlled Storage

What is Temperature Controlled Storage?

A temperature controlled storage solution is a facility which controls the temperature of the building.  Depending on your climate and what you’re storing, a temperature controlled storage facility can be vital for keeping your items at optimum temperatures. If you’re storing items for a long period of time, temperature controlled storage can also be a great solution for you.

What different types of Temperature Controlled Storage are there?

Ambient storage

Ambient storage is when products need to be kept somewhere in the range of 15- 25°c, such as paper or electrical items.

Chilled storage

Chilled storage is another type of temperature controlled storage. This is a refrigerated environment designed for storage of goods, to create an environment below 8°c.

So what kind of items should be kept in a climate-controlled storage unit?

  • Paintings and art collections

Extreme temperatures can make the canvas shrink, and humid environments can lead to mold and mildew growth.

Art is best stored in cold and dry environments without sudden temperature changes.

  • Leather furniture

Aside from making sure leather doesn’t shrink from humidity or warp from high temperatures in the summer, you also have to make sure you let it breathe.

A thin cotton sheet works best for this type of furniture. It protects it from dust accumulation and it lets the leather breathe, which prevents pungent smells.

  • Wooden Furniture

When exposed to too much moisture over time, wood can crack, warp, or rot. For anyone storing wooden furniture like bed frames, tables and chairs, end tables, nightstands, dressers, entertainment centers, and more, this makes having climate-controlled storage absolutely necessary.

  • Instruments

Instruments can be a pricey purchase, and even though they can be quite large, they’re actually really delicate and need to be handled with care. As with leather, temperature and humidity can affect your instrument’s shape and condition.

  • Household Appliances

Washer, dryers, dishwashers, and refrigerators are susceptible to some nasty damages if exposed to extreme heat or cold. The electronic and mechanical part in your household appliances can crack or rust if not stored properly. Even if you thoroughly clean and dry your appliances, you should still store them in a climate controlled unit to ensure you don’t open them up to find mold or mildew inside.
